Mapping/GIS
Data
and research needs are met by various project partners. The Institute
for Local Government Administration and Rural Development
(ILGARD) - Ohio University has contributed a variety of technical
expertise and assistance, including the development and management
of a geographic information system (GIS).
There
are a wide variety of uses for the Monday Creek GIS, including
mapping of the largest sources of contamination, land use assessment,
and floodplain management, among others.
The
GIS is maintained in an ARC/Info software environment. There are
a variety of selectable layers contained in the GIS, including:
- County
Boundaries
- Floodplains
- Forests
(State and Federally owned)
- Place
Names
- Railroad
Lines
- Roads
(US, State, and County, Township, Local)
- Streams
and Lakes
- Surface
Mines
- Township

- Underground

Development and Maintenance
Ohio
University-ILGARD has purchased an internet map server to house
GIS information for the project. ILGARD holds the University site
license for ARC View and other GIS software and as such has updated
Monday Creek's ARC Internet Map Server (ARC IMS) twice over the
past six months. The relational database containing water quality
information collected by the Monday Creek Restoration Project
and its partners has been compiled and linked to the GIS.

Creek maps can be viewed by clicking the following link:

In
addition to developing and managing the Monday Creek Restoration
Project GIS, ILGARD is also developing a GIS for many southeastern
Ohio watersheds, including the Hocking River Basin.
